Quality After School Programs Sought for Tampa Area Kids
While students are transitioning back into school, many of their parents will be investigating and evaluating after school programs that can enhance their children’s education. Parents in the Tampa area and across the nation are looking at after school programs as learning opportunities that can boost their children’s growth and academic advancement.
“Many parents use after school, summer and weekend programs to broaden their children’s experiences beyond the core academics of the classroom,” says Christy Clement, owner of KidzArt, an art education program serving the Tampa area.
According to a recent analysis of 68 afterschool studies concluded that high quality afterschool programs can lead to improved attendance, behavior and coursework. Students participating in a high quality afterschool program went to school more, behaved better, received better grades and did better on tests compared to non‐participating students. KidzArt, an art education program that provides drawing-based, multi-media visual arts instruction for kids from preschoolers to teens, offers a constructive, creative outlet that encourages self-expression and communication. The organization’s after-school and camp classes provide children with a guided foundation for drawing, but also encourage brainstorming and creative thinking and other "21st century skills". Daniel Pink, best-selling author and expert on right-brain thinking, once referred to KidzArt as “a program that is helping to encourage and support the creative innovators of tomorrow.”
“KidzArt allows children to explore, express and be motivated by their artwork in a noncompetitive environment, which promotes analysis, interpretation and other skills that build children’s brainpower,” says Christy. “Many parents are seeking dynamic enrichment and educational programs outside of the school curriculum that can help their kids further develop practical life skills such as problem solving and critical thinking.”
Hands-on learning, problem solving and collaboration, taught by KidzArt and other educational programs, are being looked at favorably by education and policy leaders in addition to parents.
According to Sue Bartman, CEO of KidzArt, “Quality after school programs have the potential to ‘round-out’ the child and bring him or her extra elements and experiences that extend beyond what the school curriculum provides.”
KidzArt is located at 1619 W. Snow Circle in Hyde Park Village. For more information on KidzArt's after school programs, call Christy Clement at (813)872-7603 or go to www.kidzarttampa.com.
